The updated Strengthening Families Program: For Parents and Youth 10-14 (SFP 10-14) is delivered in seven parent, youth, and family sessions using narrated videos portraying typical youth and parent situations with diverse families.

The program is taught with 7-10 families over seven weeks, usually in the evenings.

Parents and youth meet in separate groups for the first hour and together as families during the second hour to practice skills, play games, and do family projects. Sessions are highly interactive and include role-playing, discussions, learning games, and family projects.  Parent sessions consists of presentations, role-plays, group discussions, and other skill-building activities.  Youth sessions engage each youth in small and large group discussions, group skill practice, and social bonding activities.  Family sessions use specially designed games and projects to increase family bonding, build positive communication skills, and facilitate learning to solve problems together.

All About Strengthening Families 10-14

The Strengthening Families 10-14 video highlights to the left is from H180 2023 Winter Class!

"Strengthening Families 10-14 has helped me follow through with consequences.  I had a hard time with boundaries and keeping them.  This course has also reduced my yelling and I have learned the use of the word 'absolutely' with success." ~ Stephanie B. (SFP 10-14 Spring 2023 Class)
"Strengthening Families 10-14 has helped me to be more stern instead of my gentle parenting style which has produced no results.  I learned the value of the word 'absolutely' with my kids.  I learned it takes two to argue so if 'one won't, two can't." ~ LaCara K. (SFP 10-14 Spring 2023 Class)
"Originally I was introduced to this program through Truancy Court.  My kids were out of control and right before the classes started my kids were removed from my home.  I decided to go ahead and come to the classes anyway.  I realized through the weeks that I couldn't put the blame on my kids.  These classes have taught me to be a better listener to my kids and has helped me see things from their perspective.  It has taught me an improved method for disciplining as well.  I learned that our attitude or the mood we are in has a greater impact on the way we react as parents and the reaction from the children." ~ Billy B. (SFP 10-14 Winter 2023 Class)
"SFP 10-14 let me know the difference ways to parent.  I didn't realize how peer pressure today is impacting my children. I learned the different types of peer pressure today.  This class made me aware of how other parents deal with concerns, it becomes supportive for parents." ~ Theresa B. (SFP 10-14 Winter 2023 Class)
"I feel in this day and age with how the world is going, this program and programs like it are vitally important.  Everything you see now days are telling people to be self-serving so it's more important now to have strong family structures because with us (strong families) coming together that anything can get done." ~ Malik C. (SFP 10-14 Winter 2023 Class)
